Driving Accountability Within a Team: The Role of a 90-Day Plan

6th February 2025 By Steve Mullins

Accountability is the cornerstone of any high-performing team. It fosters trust, clarity and progress. However, accountability doesn’t just happen—it needs to be cultivated intentionally. One of the most effective ways to build accountability is by using a structured plan as the foundation, such as a 90-day plan. This article explores how to drive accountability within your team, starting with a clear plan and adapting it as you move forward.

Start with a Clear Plan

The first step to fostering accountability is creating a shared roadmap. A 90-day plan works well because it provides a manageable timeline for setting goals, tracking progress and achieving results. Here’s how to build an effective 90-day plan:

  • Set Clear Goals: Collaboratively define what success looks like for the next 90 days. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound (SMART). For example, instead of “improve customer satisfaction,” aim for “increase customer satisfaction ratings by 10% over the next quarter.”
  • Define Roles and Responsibilities: Ensure everyone knows their role in achieving the team’s goals. Assign clear ownership of tasks and outcomes, leaving no room for ambiguity. For instance, designate who is responsible for gathering data, executing initiatives, or providing updates.
  • Outline Milestones and Metrics: Break the 90-day plan into smaller, tangible milestones. Use key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and evaluate success. For example, set a goal to complete 30% of a project by the end of the first month.
  • Communicate the Plan: Share the plan with the entire team, ensuring alignment and buy-in. Transparency ensures everyone is on the same page and understands how their work contributes to the team’s goals.

Build a Culture of Accountability

Accountability requires a culture that encourages ownership and responsibility. Here are strategies to create such an environment:

  • Foster Open Communication: Encourage regular check-ins where team members can discuss progress, challenges, and potential solutions. These meetings ensure everyone stays aligned and provides opportunities for feedback.
  • Lead by Example: Managers and leaders should model accountability by meeting their commitments, admitting mistakes, and demonstrating how to learn from setbacks.
  • Recognise and Reward Accountability: Celebrate team members who consistently meet their commitments. Recognition—whether public praise, a small reward, or a shoutout in a team meeting—reinforces positive behavior.
  • Encourage Peer Accountability: Promote a sense of shared responsibility among team members. When peers hold each other accountable, it strengthens the team’s collective commitment to success.

Adapt and Iterate Through the 90-Day Plan

No plan is perfect, and adaptability is key to sustained accountability. As you work through your 90-day plan, be prepared to adjust based on feedback, performance, and external changes. Here’s how:

  • Schedule Regular Reviews: Hold bi-weekly or monthly progress reviews to assess whether the team is on track. Use these meetings to discuss successes, identify roadblocks, and recalibrate as needed.
  • Be Transparent About Changes: If priorities shift or unforeseen challenges arise, communicate updates to the plan openly. Explain why adjustments are necessary and how they align with overall goals.
  • Solicit Feedback: Encourage team members to share their insights on what’s working and what isn’t. Listening to their perspectives ensures the plan remains realistic and grounded.
  • Evaluate and Learn: At the end of the 90-day period, review the outcomes and lessons learned. What went well? What could have been improved? Use this evaluation to refine your approach for the next 90 days.

The Long-Term Benefits of Accountability

Driving accountability through a structured plan has long-lasting benefits. Teams that embrace accountability experience:

  • Improved Performance: Clear expectations and regular feedback keep everyone focused on delivering results.
  • Stronger Trust: Accountability builds trust among team members, as everyone knows they can rely on each other.
  • Increased Engagement: When people feel responsible for meaningful outcomes, they are more motivated and committed.

By starting with a solid 90-day plan, fostering a culture of accountability, and remaining adaptable, you can empower your team to achieve more—together. Remember, accountability is not about blame; it’s about ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement. With these principles in place, your team is well-positioned for sustained success.

The Importance of Customer Service

21st August 2024 By Steve Mullins

Due to many industries being so saturated, many businesses across Hampshire and West Sussex have to ensure that they provide not just good customer service but outstanding as it can make a substantial difference in the survival of their business.

Understanding and implementing outstanding customer service can be the difference between surviving and thriving. In a world where a customer can quickly share their experiences through online channels, a single negative review can reach thousands of potential customers and impact a brand’s reputation dramatically.

At ActionCOACH Portsmouth and Chichester, we believe that customer service is the lifeblood of any successful business. It’s the foundation upon which strong customer relationships are built and it’s what drives repeat business and sustained growth. We’ve seen time and time again how businesses that priorities customer service not only survive but thrive, even in challenging economic climates.

Within this blog, we explore the importance of customer service and why it is vital when building a loyal customer base.

How Exceptional Customer Service Builds Lasting Relationships With Customers

Customer service is important within any business as it is a crucial link that connects your business with your clients and can help foster long-lasting relationships with customers. When a customer feels genuinely valued and understood they are more likely to remain loyal to your business and this loyalty will not only lead to repeat business but also a customer who is eager to share your services to their personal network.

In 2024, traditional word of mouth has evolved into powerful online reviews and social media endorsements. A single positive 5-star review can create a ripple effect, extending your reach to potential clients who may have never heard of your business. On the other hand, a negative review can have the opposite effect and spread just as quickly, sometimes causing unrepairable damage.

This underlines why you should be providing excellent customer service as it will build long-lasting, strong relationships between you and your customer in a competitive marketplace, ensuring the long-term success and growth of your business.

Elevate Your Brand with Outstanding Customer Service

In 2024, there are countless businesses across UK who offer similar products and services. The question that many business owners then face is ‘How do you stand out’. While a competitive advantage would normally be pricing and high-quality products, sometimes this is simply not enough to set a business apart. However, creating a positive long-landing impression through customer service can be a game changer. It’s one of the only facts that sways your customers decision when choosing between similar products, services and offerings.

It is important to remember that customers and clients are more likely to choose and become a loyal customer to a company that provides outstanding support, even if that means paying a premium price!

Providing outstanding customer service allows you to be different to your competitors. Customer service is much more then resolving issues and answering questions, it is also about create memorable and positive experience at every touch point of the sales process. When you consistently exceed your customers expectations, you can build a strong culture surrounding your business. This reputation becomes your unique selling point and will distinguish your brand from your competitors.

The Link Between Employee Engagement and Exceptional Customer Service

Happy employees lead to happy customers—this is a fundamental truth that successful businesses understand. When your team is motivated, well-trained and empowered to deliver outstanding customer service, it creates a powerful positive feedback loop. Employees who feel valued and equipped to genuinely assist customers are more engaged and satisfied in their roles. This sense of fulfillment not only enhances their performance but also translates directly into better service, leading to happier, more loyal customers.

The impact of employee morale on customer service cannot be overstated. A motivated team that believes in the company’s mission and feels supported in their work will go above and beyond to ensure customers have a positive experience. On the other hand, disengaged or underappreciated employees are less likely to put in the extra effort, which can lead to subpar service and dissatisfied customers.

Investing in your employees’ morale and engagement is, therefore, an investment in your business’s overall success. By fostering a culture that values and supports excellent customer service, you create an environment where employees and customers alike feel valued, leading to sustained business growth and a solid reputation in the marketplace.

How Exceptional Customer Service Fuels Revenue Growth

The connection between excellent customer service and revenue growth is undeniable. Satisfied customers are not only more likely to return for repeat purchases, but they also tend to spend more per transaction and refer new customers to your business. This combination of repeat business and word-of-mouth referrals creates a powerful engine for revenue growth.

Retaining existing customers is also significantly more cost-effective than acquiring new ones. The resources spent on marketing, sales and on-boarding new clients often exceed the investment needed to maintain strong relationships with current customers. By prioritising customer service, you ensure that your existing clients remain loyal, reducing churn and maximising the lifetime value of each customer. This strategy not only drives immediate revenue but also lays the foundation for long-term, sustainable growth.

Customer service is much more than just a department or a role within your business—it’s a mindset that should permeate every aspect of your business. This mindset shapes how your team interacts with customers, how they approach problem-solving and how they represent your brand. It’s about recognising that every interaction with a customer is an opportunity to build trust, enhance loyalty and create a positive experience that reflects the values of your business.

When customer service becomes an integral part of your company’s culture, it influences everything from the way your employees communicate internally to how they engage with customers externally. It drives the building of strong, long-lasting relationships that are the foundation of any successful business. These relationships don’t just keep customers coming back—they also inspire them to become advocates for your brand, spreading positive word-of-mouth that can significantly expand your customer base.

Moreover, the benefits of excellent customer service extend far beyond relationship-building. It directly impacts your bottom line by driving revenue growth. Happy customers are more likely to make repeat purchases, spend more on your products or services, and refer others to your business. This means that investing in customer service is not just about meeting customer expectations; it’s about exceeding them in ways that lead to measurable financial gains.

6 Steps to Massive Results

26th February 2024 By Steve Mullins

On Friday 23rd February we hosted our 6 steps workshop at The Marriott Hotel, in Portsmouth where we welcome businesses across Hampshire and West Sussex to learn the 6 fundamental steps to a more profitable business.

There was an array of owners in the room who all joined us because they had a desire to expand their business but didn’t know where to start.

The whole purpose of the 6 steps is to show business owners across Portsmouth and Chichester how to increase their sales and profits, free up their time and create an amazing team – Three areas of business that tend to cause the most issues for company owners.

Finding Purpose in Our 6 Steps Event

Sarah Williams, ActionCOACH Portsmouth and Chichesters leading business coach hosted the event and introduced herself to the room. With an intensive background in running in the luxury goods sector, Sarah can share her intensive background knowledge in business with owners and management teams that work with us and attend our events.

This 6 steps event aimed to help these business owners find the value in the event itself and walk away with new strategies that they can implement into their own business.

Sarah started the session by asking the question ‘What is a REAL business?’. With answers coming from all directions of the room, no one got the answer that Sarah was looking for.

A REAL business is a commercial, profitable enterprise that works without YOU.

6 Steps is a completely FREE event that has been created to show business owners how to get their business to a point where it operates without them being around 24/7.

How Your RAS Impacts You Setting Business Goals

The Reticular Activating System is a part of your brain that helps you reach your goals as it recognises things that are important to you.

When goal setting your RAS will help guide you to achieving that specific goal.

To help make things as clear as possible, you need to give your Reticular Activating System a clear path to follow, so you must write your goals and create a roadmap of how you are going to get there with a clear understanding of financial figures and a set deadline.

By setting goals with finances in mind, your brain will have a better understanding of how to get there and by having a deadline in place, you are giving yourself an end date for you to reach your goal – This will ultimately give you the motivation to reach it!

You need a starting line, a finishing line and a deadline. A tool that is recommended to help you is a Key Performance Indicator as it acts as a benchmark for your goals and allows you to measure this performance.

KPI: Key Performance Indicator

Taking Full Accountability

Being a business owner, you must know the ins and outs of your business. Sarah asked the room how much they knew and everyone said that they believe that they know pretty much everything about their businesses. However, it was quickly highlighted that the fact that these owners didn’t.

Sarah said, “Too many business owners cannot make decisions, due to a lack of information”. This is because many people do not have a clear understanding of areas of their business, such as full finances, due to services that they outsource.

It is vital that you know exactly where your business is at when making decisions and it is important that you remember that these outsourcing services work for you and should be providing you with the answers and explanations.

In regards to finances, you not only need to know your historic numbers but you also need to know how these figures will help you create your future numbers. By managing your finances clearly, your KPIs will have a better roadmap to attainability.

The Mastery of 6 Steps

To be able to achieve the next level in your business, you need to create a foundation that you can build on top of.

Mastery: Eliminate Chaos.

Niche: Predictable cash flow.

Leverage: Efficiency.

Team: Structure for growth.

Synergy: Well-oiled machine.

Results: Owners’ personal growth or new business.

Sarah concluded the whole event by extending her services to the room, if they needed further assistance in their business she could help FREE of charge in a coaching session.

Alan from Flooring & Build By a Friend said “The event was a great way to improve your company through the knowledge and information that you learn”.

We host a range of these insightful events throughout the year and our next event is taking place on the 28th March 2024, where we will help business owners across Hampshire and West Sussex to plan their next 90 days in business.

We still have tickets available, so make sure you sign up!

What is a Business Plan?

14th February 2024 By Steve Mullins

Starting a business is an exciting adventure, full of possibilities. But before diving in, it’s important to create a business plan for your new venture so you have a clear outline of what you want to achieve and how you are going to get there.

A business plan is a crucial tool that helps you steer your business in the right direction – It can help you with many key elements of starting a business such as securing a business loan, meeting with potential investors and creating a marketing strategy.

Think of a business plan as your guide through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. It’s not just a document, it is a detailed map that shows you how to achieve growth, make a profit and succeed in your business.

Within this blog, we’ll break down the key parts of a business plan, explaining its purpose, structure and why a business plan is so essential for turning your business dreams into reality. We explore the ins and outs of a business plan and how it acts as the blueprint for building a successful and resilient business.

Why Do I Need to Turn My Business Idea into a Business Plan?

A business plan is a written document that acts as a roadmap for your new potential venture as it lays out the route from where you are now to where you want to be in the future, highlighting a sales strategy, the company’s goals, marketing strategy and who your target market is. By clearly defining your business goals, objectives and the steps required to achieve them, a well-crafted plan provides direction and purpose. Your business plan is not only for your benefit but also serves as a valuable communication tool when seeking support from potential investors, partners or stakeholders. It articulates your vision in a way that is easily understandable, compelling and most importantly, convincing.

A business plan forces you to analyse your potential business, from market analysis to competitor research, it compels you to have a solid understanding of your industry, target audience and any potential challenges that you may face. This in-depth exploration not only helps you identify opportunities but also allows you to develop strategies to mitigate as much risk as possible. It’s a proactive approach that positions your business to navigate the uncertainties of the market with informed decision-making to help you reach your long-term objectives.

Beyond being a strategic guide, a business plan is a financial blueprint. It details your projected income, expenses and profits over a specified period. This financial forecasting not only helps you understand the financial feasibility of your new business but is also a crucial component when trying to secure funding. Whether you’re approaching investors, lenders or even potential partners, a well-prepared financial section in your business plan demonstrates financial responsibility and a clear path to return on investment for any potential investors.

Crucially, the financial planning aspect of a business plan provides a realistic outlook, aiding in securing funding, managing cash flow and making informed financial decisions. Investors often require a business plan to assess a business’s viability, making it a key tool for attracting financing.

Overall, turning your business idea into a business plan is a dynamic process that propels your vision from a conceptual stage to a tangible, actionable plan. It ensures that your business is built on a solid foundation, equipped to face challenges, capitalise on opportunities and ultimately thrive in the competitive industry of already established businesses.

10 Steps of a Successful Business Plan

Roadmap for Success

A business plan outlines the goals, objectives and steps necessary to achieve success. It provides clear strategic planning for the business owner and the team, ensuring everyone is on the same page regarding your business growth and the business’s goals.

Communication Tool

It serves as a communication tool, helping entrepreneurs articulate their business concept, the company’s mission and strategy to stakeholders, including investors, partners, employees and lenders.

Market Understanding

A business plan involves thorough market research and competitive analysis, helping entrepreneurs gain a deep understanding of their industry, target audience and competitors. This information is crucial for making informed business decisions.

Risk Management

By identifying potential challenges and risks, a business plan allows entrepreneurs to develop strategies to avoid these issues. It encourages a proactive approach to handling obstacles that may arise during the business.

Financial Planning

The financial section of a business plan includes projections, budgets and financial plans. This helps entrepreneurs understand the financial viability of their business and is essential when trying to attract investors or to attract funding.

Resource Allocation

A business plan helps in efficient resource allocation by outlining the required resources, such as personnel, equipment and capital needed. This ensures that the business is adequately equipped to meet its business goals.

Decision-Making Tool

Entrepreneurs can use their business plan as a decision-making tool, referring to it when faced with choices or changes in the business environment. It provides a framework for making strategic decisions that align with the overall business objectives.

Performance Measurement

Once the business is operational, the plan serves as a benchmark for performance measurement. Entrepreneurs can compare actual results with the projections in the formal business plan to assess the business’s progress and make adjustments if necessary.

Attracting Funding

If you are a small business, a well-prepared business plan is crucial for attracting external funding. Investors and financial institutions often require a detailed business plan to evaluate the potential return on investment and the financial health of the business.

Continuous Improvement

A business plan is a living document that can be updated and revised as the business evolves. It encourages a cycle of continuous improvement by allowing entrepreneurs to adapt to changing market conditions, technology advancements and internal growth.

How to Write a Business Plan?

Crafting a successful business plan is more than just putting words on paper—it’s about creating a strategic roadmap for your entrepreneurial journey. But where do you start and what should a business plan include?

There are many essential components that you need to consider to form a robust business plan. These key points will guide you through the key elements necessary to turn your new business aspirations into a concrete, actionable plan for success.

Financial Projections

  • Presents detailed financial forecasts, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Highlights key financial metrics such as revenue growth, profitability, and return on investment.

Appendix

  • Includes any additional documents or information that supports the business plan, such as resumes of key team members, market research data or legal documents.

Risk Analysis

  • Identifies potential risks and challenges the business may face.
  • Discusses strategies for mitigating and managing risks.

In conclusion, understanding what a business plan is can be the key to unlocking the full potential of your entrepreneurial venture. A well-crafted business plan serves as a roadmap, guiding you through the intricate journey of turning your business idea into a successful reality. It not only outlines your goals, strategies and financial projections but also forces you to critically analyse and refine your business concept.

Whether you’re seeking funding, aiming for growth or simply navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship, a solid business plan is an invaluable tool. It not only communicates your vision to potential investors or partners but also provides you with a strategic framework to make informed decisions and adapt to the dynamic business industry that you are trying to break into.

Why is profit maximisation important to a business?

17th October 2023 By Steve Mullins

As a business owner achieving maximum profitability in your business can be a significant challenge. As experts in helping businesses in Portsmouth and Chichester maximise profits, we have curated a set of important strategies aimed at guiding you toward this overarching goal.

It is important to have a diverse array of strategic measures that address various aspects of your business’s operations. These approaches involve conducting thorough research to analyse your customer, optimising total costs for enhanced operational efficiency, fostering continuous innovation in products and services and nurturing external relationships through effective CRM to build customer loyalty and customer satisfaction. Additionally, creating thoughtful pricing plans, launching effective marketing campaigns and boosting employee productivity and engagement is crucial in profit maximisation.

Being sensible financially, reinvesting profits, managing risks wisely and incorporating sustainable practices also play a vital role in achieving long-term profitability. By prioritising these key steps, businesses can navigate the complexities of their market, move strategically toward sustained financial success and maximise profits.

Reducing Your Businesses Costs

It is important you examine your business operations meticulously to pinpoint areas where you can cut total costs without compromising the quality of your products or services which may cause your existing customers to look elsewhere due to a significant change.

To do this, a thorough analysis of the internal processes in your business is needed to identify inefficiencies and what needs to happen to help streamline workflows. To start you should negotiate more favourable terms with suppliers that have a more cost-effective agreement and also explore any potential partnerships.

Additionally, it would help if you delved into your business expenses to identify and eliminate costs. By doing this practice, you are enhancing your overall operations and helping that the maximum profit for your business is achieved.

Create a Pricing Strategy to Help With Maximising Profit

Establish pricing strategies that strike a balance between maximising profit margins and maintaining competitiveness within your industry. Take into account various factors, including production costs, customer demand and the perceived value of your products or services. It is crucial to conduct a comprehensive analysis of these elements to arrive at prices that reflect the inherent value of what you offer while ensuring they align with market expectations.

Regularly review and fine-tune your pricing strategy based on dynamic market conditions and valuable customer feedback. Marginal profit plays a pivotal role in the pursuit of profit maximisation for businesses. It represents the additional profit generated from producing and selling one more unit of a product or service. Understanding marginal profit is essential because it allows businesses to make informed decisions about production levels and pricing strategies. When marginal profit is positive, producing and selling an additional unit contributes positively to overall profit.

However, if the marginal profit is negative, it suggests that producing one more unit would decrease the overall profit. To achieve profit maximization, businesses must find the optimal balance of maximisation. This involves analyzing production costs, market demand and pricing structures to ensure that each unit contributes maximally to the bottom line. By focusing, businesses can fine-tune their operations and pricing strategies to achieve the highest possible overall profit.

This ongoing assessment allows you to remain agile and responsive, ensuring that your pricing remains competitive within your industry. By consistently monitoring and adapting your pricing strategy, you position your business to optimise profitability while staying relevant and attractive in the marketplace.

Boosting Sales Volume, Maximise Profit and Find New Customers

Delve into strategies aimed at your sales volume by implementing various initiatives. Consider launching targeted marketing campaigns tailored to your specific customer and utilising your marketing channels. Explore opportunities to expand your market share by identifying new markets or demographics that align with your services and products. Simultaneously, focus on improving customer satisfaction through enhanced customer service, loyalty programs and personalised experiences. Doing these three simple things does not have to have a significant cost. Produce additional revenue by capitalising on upselling and cross-selling products or services to existing buyers.

Investing in sales and marketing strategies is essential for any business. It is important that the new marketing campaigns not only attract new prospects but also nurture your existing customer base. By committing to these resources, you can drive sustained revenue growth, create customer loyalty and position your business for long-term success in your competitive marketplace all of which will help you with increasing total revenue and achieving your business goal of a higher profit overall.

What is Your Business’s Unique Selling Point

It is important to distinguish your business from its competitors by strategically setting your products and services apart. One effective approach is through continuous product innovation, staying at the forefront of industry trends and meeting your customer evolving needs. Additionally, prioritise exceptional customer service, ensuring a seamless and positive experience at every touchpoint. Building a reputation for outstanding service can become a powerful differentiator in a competitive industry.

A business whose unique selling point is its outstanding customer service is Glowsure Commercial Insurance. The insurance industry is considered a saturated and overcrowded industry. Glowsure recognised this flaw and decided to be different to their competitors by being heavily focused on their customer’s needs. By investing in their employees by making sure that they deliver 5-star standards every day, Glowsure continues to have outstanding reviews, returning clients and new customers.

Another avenue to showcase your business’s specialised expertise is to position your business as a market share leader in your particular market. By becoming known for unique skills or in-depth knowledge, you establish credibility and trust among your target audience. When your offerings stand out in your industry, you gain the ability to command higher prices based on the perceived value you provide. This distinctiveness not only fosters customer loyalty but also attracts new prospecting customers who are drawn to the uniqueness and excellence your business brings to the table.

Increase Sales by Optimising Your Operations

As a company owner, you should strive for continuous improvement in operational efficiency to maximise productivity and increase sales while minimising undeeded costs. Simplify and optimise workflows to identify and eliminate any barriers, fostering smooth and streamlined processes. Make strategic investments that elevate the speed and precision of your operations. Embrace innovation to remain agile and competitive in a rapidly changing business environment.

Regularly review and fine-tune your supply chain to ensure adaptability to industry shifts and evolving customer needs. The benefits of efficient operations extend beyond immediate cost savings, creating a foundation for heightened profitability. By consistently refining processes and embracing innovative solutions, your company not only boosts productivity but also positions itself for enduring success in a dynamic and competitive marketplace.

Profit Maximisation with the Help of Customer Relationships

By gaining a deep understanding of your target market, you can customise your products, services and marketing strategies to align with the specific needs of that industry. To be able to achieve this, you will have to conduct thorough market research to truly understand your customer base. By tailoring your offering to address these issues, you are likely to have an increase in customer satisfaction in the long run.

By creating robust customer relationships through prioritising communication, responsiveness and personalised interactions you will have better customer retention. Providing exceptional experience at every touchpoint creates a positive impression and builds customer trust. Satisfied buyers are more likely to become repeat buyers, contributing to a consistent revenue stream. Moreover, the positive experiences they have with your business can translate into powerful word-of-mouth referrals, amplifying your business’s reputation and attracting new customers.

By understanding and catering to your target market, building strong customer relationships and consistently delivering exceptional experiences, your business can become the chosen choice compared to other stakeholders in your industry. All these outcomes can collectively contribute to sustained profitability, growth and marginal revenue.

Expanding Income Revenue Sources to Increase Profit Maximisation

Any owner of a business should always look into new avenues to help it expand its business by diversifying its revenue streams. This strategic approach involves considering various options, such as introducing complementary products or services that align with your existing offerings, thereby catering to a broader range of customer needs. To help gain more buyers, another avenue you should explore is expanding your business into a new market. This could either be geographically or demographically. By exploring and capitalising on new opportunities, you can have brand new additional revenue.

In the realm of profit maximisation, understanding and effectively managing marginal costs is indispensable for businesses striving to optimise their financial performance. Marginal cost represents the additional cost incurred by producing one more unit of a product or service. The concept is pivotal because it enables businesses to make informed decisions about production levels and pricing strategies.

When a marginal cost is lower than the price at which a product is sold, producing more units becomes economically advantageous, contributing positively to overall profit. On the other hand, if marginal costs exceed the selling price, businesses may reconsider production levels to avoid diminishing profits. Striking the right balance between marginal costs and revenue is essential for determining the optimal output that maximises profit.

By analysing and fine-tuning production processes, businesses can identify cost-saving opportunities and make strategic decisions to ensure profit maximization in an ever-evolving market landscape.

Additionally, it is worth considering forming partnerships with other businesses to leverage shared resources, expertise and customer networks. Diversifying your income sources is like having a safety net for your business. It helps reduce the impact of economic ups and downs. This makes your business more flexible and better able to handle different situations, ensuring it can keep growing and increase the profits of your business in the long run.

Closely Monitor Finances & Analyse Your Business Finances

Consistently monitor your finances and analyse your financial statements, which include total costs, total revenue, selling price, production and cash flow statements.

Going through and identifying the strengths and weaknesses of your finances can give you valuable insight into the overall financial health of your company’s performance. Tracking income statements allows you to understand your total revenue sources, expenses and profitability trends.

Investigating finances within your business gives you an idea of your assets, liabilities and equity, offering a comprehensive view of its financial position. Additionally, reviewing cash flow statements helps you comprehend how money moves in and out of your company, ensuring you have enough money for day-to-day operations.

Regularly checking your financial statements gives you the information you need to make smart decisions. It helps you take advantage of opportunities, tackle challenges and plan for the future. If there are any money problems on the horizon, you can fix them early before they become a bigger issue. So, keeping an eye on your total costs, total revenue and total outgoings will help in creating a profitable business.

Investment in Your Employees

It is important to invest and encourage your team to continue to improve by promoting a culture of continuous learning so your products, services and processes can stay up to date with industry trends and be innovation leaders.

This proactive approach helps your organisation stay adaptable to changes in the industry. Regularly look for ways to improve your products, make processes more efficient and create better experiences for customers. This mindset sets your company up for long-term success.

It is also important to create a space where feedback from both customers and employees is appreciated, as it helps improve different aspects of your business. Being committed to constant improvement helps you stay competitive, meet customer needs and show that your business is forward-thinking. This commitment to excellence positions your company as a dynamic player in the industry.

Continual Improvement to Help Reach Your Ultimate Goal

Encourage your team to continuously seek ways to enhance performance, inspiring creative thinking and fostering new ideas to drive improvements.

Obtaining feedback from both customers and employees and recognising that their insights can significantly contribute to optimising various aspects of your business. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to remain flexible and adapt to changes, enhancing your organisation’s ability to achieve optimal output and profit maximisation in the long run.

Regularly evaluate opportunities to enhance product quality, streamline operations and elevate the overall customer experience. This unwavering commitment to constant improvement not only sets the stage for long-term success but also paves the way for increasing revenue over time.

Embracing a culture of perpetual enhancement not only stimulates innovation but also positions your organisation to better adapt to customer needs, showcasing a steadfast commitment to thriving and ensuring lasting competitiveness in the industry.

How to get more time back as a business owner

17th October 2023 By Steve Mullins

Time Management In Your Business

When you first pictured being a business owner, what did you see? Flexible hours around your family? Time to do the things you love doing?

We hope you’re managing to achieve those things but if it’s not quite working out, know that you’re not alone.

The reality of running your own business can be far from what you hoped it would be. We speak to those who are burnt out, working too many hours, never getting to spend time with their family and missing out on milestones.

But, there is a solution.

How A Business Can Improve Time Management

Part of business coaching is to help business owners implement processes and structures that mean the business is less reliant on them. Which in turn means you can step out of the business for longer and it will continue to operate.

We can even show you how your business can make money whether you decide to get out of bed or not!

Here are some strategies you can employ to reclaim some of your time back to help you create a healthier work-life balance:

Delegate Tasks

Are there tasks you get bogged down with that you know you can give to someone else? Write down your main list of tasks, identify those that can be effectively handled by others and delegate them to your employees.

This way you can focus on high-priority responsibilities and free up your time whilst empowering your team to take more ownership.

Automate processes

Are there aspects of your role that are repetitive? Can they be automated? Look for opportunities to streamline processes using different systems, i.e. project management software such as Monday and Trello, and customer relationship management systems such as Hubspot and Salesforce.

NB: These are suggested systems you could use and not an endorsement.

Hire capable employees

Build a competent team and empower them to take on more responsibilities. Hire talented individuals who can handle various aspects of the business, reducing your workload and allowing you to take a step back.

Set boundaries and prioritise

Do you have a clear boundary between work and your personal life? When you go home, are you fully present or are you trying to reply to emails whilst juggling family time?

It’s important to set clear boundaries and prioritise tasks based on their importance and urgency. Learn to say no to tasks that aren’t aligned with your goals or can be handled by others.

Implement time management techniques

Do you find yourself getting easily distracted or being dragged into workplace issues that can and should be fixed by your team? Implement time management techniques that help you stay focused and disciplined to ensure work doesn’t carry into time you haven’t allocated.

We’re a fan of a ‘default diary’ where we lay out each working day in 30 minute slots on a spreadsheet. We then time block our tasks throughout the day, which helps us to stay on track and use our time effectively.

Learn How We Can Help Your Time Management

These are a few areas to get you started on better managing your time in order to free up more of it. Having a good team around you can make all the difference and making sure you set clear boundaries that enable you to be fully engaged wherever you are.

If you would like to find out more about freeing your time up as a business owner so that you can start to enjoy the reasons you chose to run your own business, we’d love to hear from you.
